Point Atkinson is located along the coast in West Vancouver.
The area was originally charted and named by Capital George Vancouver.
The lighthouse was built in 1875. The virgin rain forest was set aside in 1881 to preserve darkness behind the lighthouse. This left it out of the area logged along the coast. Some of the trees are more than 500 years old.
