One of the rremaining arches of the Pont Saint-Bénézet at Avignon
The famous bridge dates back to the 14th Century, rebuilt many times as the bridge was damages with flooding. In the 1600s the bridge was left not to be repaired again. Of the 22 arches, four remain.
Stairs lead up to an entrance to Avignon, up and across the defensive walls.
The walls we see today are a result of Innocent VI, the fifth Avignon Pope, the walls stretch 4.3 km around the town.
