Ansouis
Surrounded by vineyards, this is an old stone village build around a castle. It holds the Most Beautiful Villages of France designation, and part of that I think is the feeling of authenticity. The castle in the middle of the town has lasted centuries of warfare, fires and the destructiion that took place with the French Revolution.
I arrived early one morning and enjoyed the town to myself. The church ranks as one of the most distinctive with beautiful colours. The castle was closed so I could only enjoy exterior views.
Wonderful textures and colours of doors and shutters.
I loved the stone and greenery.
Bonnieux street scene.
The dreamy morning light on the old buildings.
Beautiful views from the town to the valley.
Curving staircases to the upper levels.
Entrance to the castle.
I liked the lived-in look.
Noble homes that went with the noble life of the castle.
