Arles
A town more than a thousand years old, located in the Camargue Department of Provence, the town is noted for its Roman architecture and its association with artist Van Gogh..
The castle in the middle of the town has lasted centuries of warfare, fires and the destruction that took place with the French Revolution. Other sights include the Amphitheater, theater, Thermae of Constantine, Roman Walls, and the Saint-Trophime Church and Cloister.
I arrived early one morning and enjoyed the town to myself. The church ranks as one of the most distinctive with beautiful colours. The castle was closed so I could only enjoy exterior views.
