Bonnieux

Bonnieux

Hill top village of stone.

Bonnieux

The town dates back to before Roman times. Near the town, the Roman bridge, Pont Julien still stands. The town we see today reflects the Middle Ages when the town developed around the castle and within the fortified walls. It was part of the Comtat Venaissin, a papal territory for over five centuries. Bishops and notble families built residences in the town.

Today walk the cobbled streets such as Rue Droite and Rue des Pénitents Blancs to view stone houses, fountains and remains of the ramparts.
