Pernes-les-Fontaines
The fortitied town with the nickname, "Pearl of the Comtat" is famous for its extensive water system. That system provides water to 41 fountains throughout the town. In medieval time it became an important centre, ruled by the Counts of Toulouse. In 1274 it and the area became a papal state.
