Positano

The Romans built sumptuous villas on the coast of Positano. Ruins are near the Church dell'Assunta. The town was founded around the 9th century around a Benedictine abbey. The population grew when the inhabitants from Paestum, fleeing Saracen incursions arrived in Positano.

The town saw good and difficult times. When the now famous Amalfi Coast Road, the SS163 was built it made access to the towns easier. It as discovered by elite travelers of artists and celebrities. Positano, and the hill top town of Ravello becasuse preferred holiday resorts.
